Travel agents are picking up business from consumers “who burned their fingers” when their Do it Yourself bookings ran into trouble during Covid-19, according to professionals speaking at a session held Wednesday at WTM London tourism fair 2021.
Julie pinkney, retail director of Travel Network Group, a consortium of UK agencies, said the company is seeing a comeback among old customers as well as brand new customers who have already booked direct.
âLast year there were so many cuts and changes, so much confusion. It was so complex to navigate, âshe said, in a session titled âWho will be the winners of Travel Retail? “.
According to Pinkney, there is an increase in high-end vacations and long-haul travel, while booking volumes for socially distanced and multigenerational vacations are on the rise.
“Package and shovel vacations took longer to return, but are now reborn,” she added.
For his part, Jim eastwood, Director of Global Sales at Travel Counselors, said âinstant travelâ is a big trend, adding that people want to know, âCan I go now, can I go safe, can I go quickly? Can I come back before something changes? “
âPeople are opting for private transfers, extra legroom and opting for a villa instead of staying at a resort,â Eastwood said.
Meanwhile, the founder and CEO of Gecko Digital Jacques South said he had identified âa much stronger trend towards socially distant vacations, shorter wait times and longer vacations. People are much more selective, âhe said.
